When we create something — a gesture, an image, a ritual — the idea that guides it becomes essential. The totem is not just an object. It is a visible carrier of invisible truths, a sign that connects us to realities beyond what the senses alone can grasp.

In this photoshoot, I discovered an unexpected totem: a pair of worn ballet shoes, fixed high on the ceiling. Suspended above the stage, they seemed to whisper a silent story — not just of movement, but of devotion, sacrifice, and the collective spirit of those who once danced beneath them. For the theater’s dancers, it may serve both as a symbol of protection and as a secret mark of belonging. Like all true totems, it doesn’t explain — it resonates.

Totems hold the hidden memory of effort, beauty, and pain. They guard the mystery of mastery. We long to be part of what they represent — not because they offer clarity, but because they awaken something unspoken within us.

That is why I made these images.
Not to explain the meaning,
but to let it remain —
felt, but unsaid.

Когда мы создаём что-либо — образ, жест, ритуал — за этим всегда стоит смысл, и он важнее самого действия.
Тотем — это не просто объект. Это видимая форма невидимого, материальный носитель того, что не поддаётся описанию, но ощущается всем существом.

Во время этой фотосессии я заметила старые пуанты, прикреплённые к потолку.
Они не просто обувь.
Это знак, оставленный на память,
знак, который может быть оберегом для танцоров,
символом, соединяющим их как сообщество.
Тотем не объясняет — он оставляет молчаливый след, который чувствуется больше, чем понимается.

Тотемы всегда скрывают тайну мастерства — и именно поэтому мы хотим быть рядом с ними.
Потому что они содержат в себе память: о боли, усилии, красоте.
Они напоминают нам, кто мы есть — и кем можем стать.

Я создала эту серию не для того, чтобы объяснить.
А чтобы передать.
Чтобы осталось чувство.
А не только картинка.
